Opulent Gatsby 41st Birthday Party Umhlanga KZN
My working mode was switched back on for 2022 by my gorgeous client Natalie. She gave me a call while I was out doing stationery shopping at the last hour for my kids. It was a quick chat where she asked me if I would come out to Umhlanga in Kwazulu Natal to do her birthday party – I said sure I would love to! I asked her if she had a budget in mind and she said that she has no budget and that she wanted an amazing over the top birthday celebration.
Natalie had already chosen her theme, Gatsby but classy and elegant with only a touch of vintage! I got to the drawing board and put together some concepts and Natalie was thrilled! We kept on adding everything she could possibly have dreamt of having at her event without worrying about budgets and costs.
What was extra special about this specific Opulent Gatsby 41st Birthday Party Umhlanga KZN, was that this event was a ladies only event. Natalie wanted to spoil all the ladies in her life with one night of epic fun. And that was indeed achieved!
Opulent Gatsby 41st Birthday Party Umhlanga KZN – Decor Details
By now you should know that if you are enlisting our bespoke luxury event and wedding planning services, elegance is a very important aspect at any of our events. So there was no way that I was going to produce a kitch Gatsby 41st Birthday Party in Umhlanga KZN!
For the floral centrepieces I opted for large two types of floral arrangements – I wanted to incorporate pearls and feathers but at the same time create a timeless Gatsby vibe. As you can see below, we have definitely achieved that. The beautiful pearls in our flower arrangements definitely added a touch of class and luxury in the Gatsby theme.
Table Decor details definitely had to include gold lace bottles, feathers and definitely lots and lots of candles for ambience. At one stage I was stuck as I couldn’t conceptualise my wow factor as I had not seen the venue before planning this event except in photos and videos that Natalie sent me. I had a quick chat with Natalie about the importance of doing a venue inspection for this type of opulent high-end event with such a generous budget. My team and I didn’t want any surprises on the day of set up and we also wanted to see what else we would do to take this luxury Gatsby birthday party to the next level. So Natalie asked me to fly out for a day to Umhlanga to meet with her (for the first time) and to do site visit.
I decided to take my lighting specialist with as I wanted him to foresee any challenges for what we wanted to do – Usually at venues, we are quite restricted if we want to do massive ceiling installations. Once we got to the venue, we all agreed that there’s so much that we needed to do to really bring out that Gatsby vibe. My team and I always plan authentic themed events therefore it was highly important that the right ambience and atmosphere was achieved.
Once on site, my husband suggested that to keep the Gatsby theme authentic, we should go all black with the table tops and a. high gloss black dance floor. Natalie wanted to do white / cream and gold with touches of black. What my husband suggested was really epic and he painted the vision to Natalie and she agreed to the new colour palette. The end result of this event was simply mind-blowing!
To add more glam, we decided to to fairy light chandeliers over the tables and that was completely next level. See the photos and videos and tell us what you think!
Opulent Gatsby 41st Birthday Party Umhlanga KZN – Backdrop Feature
We custom made a four post feature for Natalie and did a variety of shiny gold plinths to display all the personalised goodies that Natalie wanted. Eveything edible item was personalised to Natalie’s 41st. We had Swiss cigar chocolates, Belgian chocolate slabs, cookies and cakesicles. Besides the luxurious birthday cake, we also included a Strawberry tower and croquembouche tower in our opulent colour scheme, adorned with feathers , pearls and gold foil.
This Opulent Gatsby 41st Birthday Party Umhlanga KZN was so full of details that my brains gets very tired just recalling all of them! We started the set up at 9pm on the Thursday evening and we finished at 3pm the next day. Thats a total of 18 hours of installation. So it’s always important to take into consideration the set up time for an elaborate event of this nature. Venues have to be onboard with these over the top set up without the constant need to bill clients more and more.

Our layout included lounge pods, cocktail tables as well as the formal tables and guests loved it! For the entertainment, Bash with Tash was the comedian for the evening ensuring everyone was in stitches.
